For many people, an arrest is the first time they have ever been in jail. The first question for them and their family is how to get out.

After you are booked into the jail, you will be seen by a judge or magistrate, who will set a bond. The bond amount will depend on the seriousness of the charge and your prior record. Once a bond is set you can contact a  bondsmen - or bail bond company. They will post the bond for you; the fee will be a percentage of the bond, generally 10-15%. If you have the money, you can post a cash bond, which you will get back after your case is over.
