Over the years I've developed the reputation as the lawyer other lawyers go to when they have questions about some area of criminal law. It's a rare day when I don't get asked for advice on some issue or question. I've even had judges contact me when they have a difficult issue they haven't dealt with before. I welcome the opportunity to do that and consider it a privilege to share what I've learned over 35+ years.

I wanted to come up with a way to share that knowledge with lawyers outside of Waco and McLennan County, which is why I put together this page. While I have spoken at numerous continuing legal education programs, the topics are necessarily limited, and reach only those in attendance (and paying attention). One of our firm's goals is to educate people about the operation of the criminal justice system, including lawyers.

This section is designed specifically as a place to put information that is important - and useful - to other criminal defense lawyers. Over time, I plan on including the following:

  • Habeas corpus cases where the lawyer's performance has been found deficient - so you know what not to do
  • Appellate cases where convictions have been reversed, so you know what issues to raise and preserve for appeal
  • Forensic issues and topics that you may not be aware of. For example, have you ever heard of photogrammetry? It can be a powerful tool in the right case.
  • Interesting cases from across the country, because you're probably a criminal law "junkie" like me.

If you want to receive notice of the updates when they are posted, please sign up for our newsletter by filling out the form on this page. I promise not to spam you or send you more than a couple of emails each month. The newsletter will not only let you know when information is added to the site, it will have other information you will find useful - and entertaining.

If there's ever anything we can help with, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask. Also, if there's something you would like to be addressed, PLEASE let me know.

Being a criminal defense lawyer is the greatest calling there is. Despite what the prosecutor's think, we are on the RIGHT side. Let's all do our best to improve the system - one case at a time.
